News
reports have revealed the death of a man who committed suicide after investing
all of his savings into a bet on France winning the Euro 2016 championships.
The victim identified as Fidel
Nikitin, 27, had hoped to win the £2,300 gamble, allowing him to clear his
debts but unfortunately, Portugal had beat their host nation in the finals
which took place on Sunday, 10, 2016.
Daily Record reports that Nikitin
who was a mobile phone salesman, from Izhevsk, Russia, reportedly left a
message on his social media account following the 1-0 defeat, writing:
"Thank you and forgive
me."
The police reveal that Nikitin had
walked onto the Ludzya-Izhevsk railway track, holding his ground without a
flinch even after the train sounded a warning.
The driver of train said that he had
no time to stop after spotting the deceased on the rail tracks.
Nikitin's relatives disclosed that
he had been deeply shocked by France's loss to Portugal, adding that he had
taken out a series of loans which he had been unable to pay, hence the reason
for the bet.
May his soul rest in peace
